STEAM Program Instructor- Part Time

Location of Programs: Based at WMSIโ€™s offices in Littleton, NH, primarily off-site at locations across Northern NH and VT.

Job Description:

WMSI is seeking a caring, enthusiastic problem-solver! A STEAM Program Instructor facilitates educational STEAM programs for elementary and middle school students 2-4 days per week, primarily off-site at North Country and Northeast Kingdom schools. This position involves an active role in lesson prep and driving a van to multiple locations within 1.5 hours of base. Additionally, an instructor is involved in coordinating with teachers, and training middle and high school students as assistant instructors. The position also includes office hours spent organizing teaching materials, helping in the evaluation of lessons, and creating documentation for future instructors.There are growth opportunities in this position, including additional hours and responsibilities over time.

Salary Range: $17-22/hr, commensurate with experience

Duties Will Include:

  • Facilitation of off and on-site STEAM-based youth programs for (primarily) elementary and middle school students

  • Facilitation of camps during school vacation weeks and summer

  • Organization & maintenance of program-related resources & equipment

  • Regular communications with teachers at partner schools

  • Assistance in evaluation of all programs

  • Training and mentorship of high school youth instructors, as needed

  • Occasional preparation of lesson curriculum

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be motivated and self-directed

  • At least 1-3 years experience working with youth - essential

  • Ability to support and empower students in the creative problem-solving process - essential

  • Ability to set a positive environment within a room independently - essential

  • Prior experience and/or interest in science, technology, engineering, and math - a plus

  • Completion of post-secondary degree or equivalent experience - preferred

  • Strong communication and organization skills 

  • A flexible team player who is willing to learn from mistakes and adapt

  • Motivated to improve as an instructor and facilitate new material

  • Comfortable driving safely in variable weather conditions

  • Must be able to occasionally utilize your personal vehicle for reliable transportation to/from school programs

Schedule:

  • Ideal start date in September 2026

  • Generally 2-4 partial days per week through the school year (approx. 15-25 hours per week)

  • Programs take place during the school day and/or after-school timeframe

  • Occasional evening and/or weekend programs possible

Physical Exertion Environmental Conditions:

  • Required to sit for extended periods of time, stand frequently, use fine motor skills to operate equipment, and lift and/or move 40 pounds or less.
